Seat has announced pricing and specifications for its new Leon – the firm’s most popular model in the UK.
This new Leon is the first available with mild-hybrid engine technology, while a plug-in hybrid is set to join the line-up later in the year. It’s also more spacious than its predecessor, while the cabin is fully digitalised – just as it is on the latest Volkswagen Golf, which the Leon shares plenty in common with.
Prices for the Leon start from £19,855 – making it the most affordable out of the Volkswagen Group quartet, which includes the VW Golf, Skoda Octavia and Audi A3. All of these models are new for 2020.
The petrol engine line-up includes a 108bhp 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre unit available with either 128bhp or 148bhp. Choose the latter and the DSG automatic transmission, and it will come with the mild-hybrid ‘eTSI’ technology, which can increase fuel consumption and responsiveness.
As for diesel engines, just a 113bhp 2.0-litre unit is on offer – which can return up to an impressive 67.3mpg – with a larger 148bhp output set to be available later. The Estate is only available with the 1.5-litre petrol engine initially.
From launch, three trim levels are available – SE, SE Dynamic and FR.
Prices for the SE start from £19,855 on the hatch and £22,455 on the estate, with standard equipment including keyless start, LED headlights, an eight-inch touchscreen and 16-inch alloy wheels.
The SE Dynamic (costing from £20,955 on the hatch and £23,455 on the Estate) adds satellite navigation, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, front and rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloy wheels.
At the top of the line-up is the FR, which brings full LED lights, a sportier styling kit, a lower suspension setup and wireless phone charging. It costs from £23,185 on the hatchback and £24,545 on the Estate derivative.
Order books are now open, with the model set to arrive in showrooms in summer.
