Seat adds new front-wheel-drive petrol option to large Tarraco SUV

The new version adds a more efficient option to the range of Seat’s flagship model.

Seat has announced that it is introducing a more efficient powertrain option to the range of its largest model – the Tarraco.

Previously if you wanted a petrol and automatic version of this seven-seat SUV, you had no option but to choose the powerful-but-thirsty 187bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged unit with four-wheel-drive.

However, buyers can now choose a newly introduced 148bhp 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. But it’s also front-wheel-drive, which helps to cut CO2 emissions and increase its appeal to fleet users that aren’t so bothered about four-wheel-drive. Seat claims it can return up to 39.2mpg, along with CO2 emissions of 164g/km.

In terms of performance, it can reach 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds, and would max out at a claimed top speed of 123mph. The new powertrain option is available now, with prices starting from £29,900.

Seat’s largest SUV will also get even more appealing in 2020 when the range expands with a new plug-in hybrid option – the first of its kind for Seat. It will be available to order from the middle of 2020 and sees a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine paired to a 13kWh battery to produce a combined 232bhp, while also claiming an electric range of 31 miles. It’s the same setup that features in the Volkswagen Passat GTE and Skoda Superb iV.
