Seat records record September sales with increasing market share

The growing Spanish brand’s sales show no signs of slowing.

Seat has announced that it has achieved record sales in September with the important new ‘69’ plate.

The manufacturer registered 8,216 cars in September, making that a total of 54,995 so far in the first nine months of 2019. This equates to an 8.9 per cent year-on-year increase.

Against an overall new market that has declined by 2.5 per cent during the same period, Seat’s growing number of registrations is helping the brand to record its highest ever market share in the UK. With a 2.95 per cent chunk of the market, it shows the brand’s growth when it had a 2.64 per cent share at the same time in 2019.

Models such as the new seven-seat Tarraco, Arona and Cupra Ateca performance SUV are all helping this growth spurt, too.

The next 12 months will also be busy for Seat, with six new models going on sale. These include the new Mii Electric, along with the new Seat Leon hatch and estate, which are expected to be revealed shortly. There are also further new performance SUVs in the pipeline from Cupra, too.

Richard Harrison, managing director of Seat UK, said: “It’s encouraging to see our growth momentum continue despite the market headwinds; it shows just how desirable our latest range of award-winning products are, and reflects the passion and enthusiasm of our retailer partners.

“Together with our big plans for our Cupra performance division, the future looks even more exciting.”
