Seat Tarraco: What you need to know

Seat Tarraco: What you need to know

Seat SUV is an excellent choice for larger families

Though Seat might have been a bit behind other manufacturers when it came to launching SUVs, its trio of high-riding models proved to be worth the wait.

First with the mid-size Ateca, then the smaller Arona and latterly the Tarraco – the brand’s largest SUV. Rivalling the Skoda Kodiaq and Peugeot 5008, it’s proven to be a popular choice since its introduction in 2019.

So if you’re considering a Seat Tarraco, this is what you need to know.

It’s Seat’s only seven-seater

Historically, if you wanted a practical Seat, the model you’d go for was the Alhambra MPV, which was the brand’s only seven-seater for years.

But with people carriers no longer in-demand with buyers, Seat has unfortunately stopped producing it. However, that void for a roomy model from the Spanish brand has been successfully filled by the Tarraco, which too comes as standard with seven seats and makes it a very practical choice for larger families.

Generous range of engines to choose from – including the Golf GTI unit…

Choice is absolutely key on the Tarraco, with a broad range of trim and engines to choose from. It’s the range of options under the bonnet that really impresses, with a broad line-up of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, along with manual and automatic versions and four-wheel-drive if you need the best off-roading capability.

Perhaps the greatest surprise in the Tarraco’s engine range, though, is the fact it’s available with the same unit as the Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatchback – a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 242bhp and 370Nm of torque. With a 0-60mph time of six seconds and a 142mph top speed, it’s the nearest thing to a sporty SUV.

Sporty-looking FR versions available

Seat’s sportier-looking FR models are often the most popular versions in the range, so it wasn’t a huge surprise when the firm introduced racier-looking options to the range.

Here, the FR brings large Cosmo grey 19-inch alloy wheels, a range of black styling accents and sports seats. You also get a stylish roof spoiler, revised bumpers and a twin-exit exhaust which really helps to add plenty of extra street cred to this already stylish SUV.

Generous equipment levels

Seats nearly always offer great value for money and the Tarraco is absolutely no exception. With prices starting from £30,080, it undercuts the similar Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace by a few thousand pounds, and certainly doesn’t scrimp on the equipment you get as standard.

Highlights include full LED lighting throughout, a digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen and adaptive cruise control to name just a few features.

Surprisingly good to drive

If you want a ‘normal’ car that still feels special to drive, Seats are usually a very appealing option, and even though the Tarraco is a large SUV and arguably the type of car where a sporty drive is the least important factor, it still won’t leave you disappointed.

Despite being a high-riding model, it still has quite a sporty stance, and with minimal body roll and sharp steering, it’s undoubtedly one of the best cars to drive in its class.
