Singer reveals Dynamics and Lightweighting Study for Goodwood

The Californian specialist worked alongside Williams Advanced Engineering to create the ultimate reimagination of the 911 964.

Porsche reimagination expert Singer has unveiled the results of its Dynamics and Lightweighting Study, which was done in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering.

Along with many other high profile technical partners, such as Michelin, Recaro and Momo, Singer and Williams were able to restore of the most advanced air-cooled Porsche 911s ever – with the DLS coming in the form of a 1990 964.

Originally announced back in November last year, the DLS combines the beautiful design of the third generation 911 with Formula 1 levels of engineering, with the 4.0-litre flat-six engine producing almost 500bhp and is built from magnesium and other lightweight substances.

The engine is paired to a bespoke six-speed Hewland manual transmission, and in the cockpit, the gear lever has been mounted closer to the steering wheel to speed up gear changes and has exposed elements for the lightweight look.

The shell of the car looks almost identical to the standard 964, but the Singer reimagined version comes with advanced aerodynamics components and a larger ducktail spoiler to improve the performance.

To make this car even more special and as lightweight as possible, it comes with forged 18-inch magnesium, deep-dish alloys, hand-built instrument dials and a specially-built lightweight air conditioning system.

Rob Dickinson, Singer founder and creative director, said: “The Dynamics and Lightweighting Study has been years in the making. To see the results, representing the ongoing pursuit of our client’s vision for their ultimate air-cooled 911, is so exciting.

“We’ve worked relentlessly to present a machine that visually celebrates the past while acknowledging the future – both inside and out. It’s our fourth year at this incredible event and we’re thrilled to be back at Festival of Speed for its twenty-fifth anniversary and to wish Porsche a very happy 70th birthday.”

Although official pricing hasn’t been released, it is said that the Parallax White and Norfolk Yellow model is worth in excess of $1.8million – with this example of one of 75 to be built.
