Skoda develops climate control system that can combat hay fever

Range-topping Skoda Scalas come as standard with the feature.

Skoda has unveiled a new feature in its Scala hatchback that aims to give some respite to hay fever sufferers.

With an estimated 13 million people suffering with hay fever in the UK, the Scala’s dual-zone climate control function could prove to be very useful to those plagued by excess pollen levels in the warmer months.

Scalas fitted with dual-zone climate control come with an energy-saving recirculation mode that aims to prevent pollen from entering the cabin. The system also features an additional filter and air quality sensor, which can also cut out pollen further.

To get behind the wheel of a Scala fitted with this climate control system, buyers need to opt for the range topping SE L version of the Scala, which costs from £19,585.

However, the Scala isn’t the first car to be fitted with a feature to aid hay fever sufferers, though it’s one of the first at this price point. The Tesla Model S and X have been offered with an air filtration mode for several years, as well as a clever ‘Bioweapon defence mode’, which can also combat pollution and bacteria.

As temperatures boil across the UK, and with pollen levels expected to be particularly high, hay fever sufferers can also take precautions by taking medication, though avoiding drowsy supplements if you’re driving, and also to try and keep the windows up in the car.
