Skoda Scala takes top score in latest round of Euro NCAP testing

Czech hatchback awarded a five-star rating by independent safety board.

Skoda’s new Scala has been awarded top marks for safety in the latest round of Euro NCAP testing.

The independent board gave the hatchback a five-star score, as well as commending its adult occupant and cyclist protection. In the former category, it managed a 97 per cent rating while the latter saw it take a six-point award as a result of its safety equipment — including Front Assist with Predictive Pedestrian and Cyclist Protection.

As for the rest of the categories, the Scala took home 87 per cent for its child occupant protection, 81 per cent for that of vulnerable road users plus 76 per cent for its level of assistance technology.

Christian Strube, Skoda board Member for technical development, said: "Our engineers continually work on further optimising the active and passive safety of our models. With the Scala, for example, we introduced several new assistance systems to the compact class, which had previously been available exclusively for vehicles in higher segments.

“Achieving the highest five-star rating for the Skoda Scala in the European reference test for vehicle safety is an acknowledgement of our daily work. All of our current model series have earned the top score in the Euro NCAP test – a great success."

Other cars scoring five-star ratings in this latest round of testing include the Tesla Model 3 as well as the Mercedes B Class and GLA.
