SKODAs could soon be used as delivery addresses with new tech

Along with two online companies, the Czech brand is looking to make the boot of your car a point of delivery.

To help make deliveries easier and more streamlined, Skoda is looking to make secure deliveries to vehicles a mainstream idea.

The Czech brand’s Auto Digilab technology research team is working alongside two online retailers from the Czech Republic to advance a system where couriers can gain access to your car’s boot for a limited time to place items inside.

The pilot test for this tech will mean customers won’t have to wait at home or potentially miss delivery of parcels, and instead couriers can see where the vehicle is parked with GPS on a mobile app and then gain access for a limited time via a digital key during a set window.

Delivery drivers would then lock the vehicle through the same application and notify the customer of the completion of the process.

Jarmila Plachá, head of Skoda Auto Digilab, said: “This pilot project provides a concrete look ahead at how everyday life can be made even simpler and more convenient in future by using state-of-the-art technology. I’m looking forward to further developing this project together with our partners.”

Tomáš Havryluk, vice chairman of the board for Alza.cz – one of the online retailers taking part in the project – said: “As we put customer satisfaction first, we are always on the lookout for innovations that we can apply to our products and services.

“By adding the option of delivering our products straight to the boot of a car, we offer our customers an amazing new service that will make shopping with us even more enjoyable.”
