Supermarket fuel prices to drop again this week

Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s will further cut their fuel pricing.

A trio of supermarkets has revealed further price cuts to fuel prices, having already slashed them once this month.

Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s will each knock 4p per litre off for diesel and 2p per litre off petrol over the next few days, following on from a 3p per litre reduction for both on February 5.

It comes as wholesale costs on fuel have fallen, though a number of organisations feel the price cuts have come later than necessary.

Simon Williams, RAC fuel spokesperson, said: “The cut in the price of fuel is excellent news, it’s just a shame that we have to call for a cut before retailers take action. Lower wholesale prices for both petrol and diesel have merited a cut for the last week which means drivers have been paying over the odds at the pumps all that time.

"Drops in the wholesale price should be passed on by the supermarkets in the same way increases are – daily, rather than being saved up for a headline-grabbing announcement.”

Adding to that, Luke Bosdet, AA fuel price spokesperson, said: “For those craftsmen, rural workers and small businesses who rely on this workhorse fuel, hiked pump prices deny them the chance to offset other rising costs that leave them struggling.”
