The Society for Motoring Manufacturers and Traders has released its monthly figures showing the state of the UK car market, and July saw a welcome stabilisation.
Overall sales were up by 1.2 per cent compared to the same month last year, with people taking even more of an interest in alternatively-fuelled vehicles – such as hybrids and plug-ins.
But which vehicles were in the top 10 for sales overall last month? We take a look…
10. Kia Sportage
The South Korean SUV has been a popular choice amongst families, as it is the fourth placed SUV-styled option in the top 10 thanks to 2,442 sales in July. A new version is on sale now.
9. Volkswagen Tiguan
As the mid-size SUV offering from Volkswagen, the Tiguan is packed with a lot of equipment and 2,687 units were delivered last month. It also comes in a seven-seat Allspace model.
8. Ford Kuga
As well as holding eighth on the July list, the Kuga also holds eighth place on the year-to-date chart. July saw 2,776 Kugas sold, making it the second-best Ford on the table for last month.
7. Mercedes A-Class
Mercedes revealed the new tech-filled version of the A-Class at the start of this year, and the premium hatchback continues to perform well in the UK. 2,840 A-Class models were sold in July.
6. Audi A3
Available as a saloon, hatchback or cabriolet, the Audi A3 comes with plenty of options, especially with the S and RS versions. 2,867 units of the premium family model were sold last month.
5. Nissan Qashqai
Continually the best-selling crossover in the UK, the Qashqai holds third place in the 2018 overall charts with 33,536 – with 3,470 of those coming in July.
4. Vauxhall Corsa
The top four on the July sales list are all hatchbacks, and the Corsa continues to perform well on the UK market. The favourite among young drivers was sold 3,670 times in the last month.
3. Volkswagen Polo
The stylish new generation of Polo continues to be a hit with UK drivers and is slowly climbing up the 2018 top 10 list. Volkswagen saw 3,847 sales of the Polo in July.
2. Volkswagen Golf
The ever-popular hatchback was the other side of a large jump in sales, as the Golf raked in 5,582 sales in July. It also continues to have a strangle-hold on second place for 2018, as 45,512 units have been ordered so far this year.
1. Ford Fiesta
No car can touch the Fiesta at the moment as it holds first place in the 2018 sales and did so again for July. The 6,222 units sold last month have added to the 62,637 sales for this year to date – streets ahead of the Golf in second.
