Fiat has announced prices and specs for its updated Tipo, which gains additional technology as well as a new rugged-looking ‘Cross’ trim level.
It continues to be available as both a five-door hatchback and Station Wagon (estate), with the model gaining a range of new driver assistance tech as standard, along with a new seven-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, which replaces traditional dials.
In terms of design changes, the Tipo comes with a revised grille, new bumpers and the latest Fiat logo, while Paprika Orange and Oceano Blue join the range of colours available. Elsewhere in the interior it comes with a new steering wheel, while changes have been made to the climate settings.
In terms of powertans, the previous Tipo’s choice of 1.4-litre petrol engines and 1.6-litre diesel have both been replaced by a new 99bhp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, which is not the only engine available. Fiat claims the new unit will return up to 51.4mpg, with CO2 emissions as low as 125g/km.
Prices start from £17,690 for the regular Tipo, which comes as standard with cruise control, LED daytime running lights and rear parking sensors, along with a range of safety kit – including a driver drowsiness monitoring system, autonomous emergency braking and lane keep assist.
Upgrade to the Life, costing from £19,690, and it adds a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels and full LED headlights.
At the top of the range is the new Cross model, which is only available in hatchback form. This brings more rugged-looking styling thanks to its raised ride height, black plastic-clad wheelarches and silver front and rear skid plates. It also brings a full-size spare wheel, reversing camera and satellite navigation. The Cross model is available from £21,690.
