What’s new on the 2020 MG ZS?

MG has updated its best-selling ZS crossover, here we take a look at what’s new

MG is on a roll at the moment, and in fact it’s one of the UK’s fastest-growing car companies.

Even during the coronavirus pandemic it’s seen its sales increase, when many others have recorded huge declines. Alongside a growing UK dealer network, key to MG’s success to date is its ZS crossover.

This affordable model has struck a chord with buyers looking for great value for money, while MG’s superb seven-year warranty is yet another positive. And despite the ZS only arriving in UK showrooms at the end of 2017, the firm has just given it a comprehensive update to make it even more appealing. Here’s what’s new....

Boost in quality

The ZS has always remained a bargain model, and while prices remain affordable, MG has put a fresh focus on quality on its updated crossover.

In the cabin you’ll see a new layout, with MG introducing more soft-touch materials to give the interior a more premium feel, along with new stitching designs that help to make it feel more expensive than it is. A more useful touch is the integration of a new front armrest – a simple touch, but one that will make the ZS a more comfortable option.

Larger touchscreen and more tech

MG has taken a leaf out of its larger HS model’s book for the updated ZS, which now features that car’s large 10.1-inch touchscreen as standard. It’s now one of the largest in the crossover class, and a step up next to the outgoing version’s eight-inch unit.

Top-spec Exclusive versions also feature a digital driver’s display, which helps to give the cabin a more modern feel, and makes it clearer to read while on the move.

Fresh styling

In terms of design, the changes made to the ZS are more substantial than most facelifts – particularly at the front and rear.

Most notable is the new hexagonal front grille, which gives the ZS a more imposing look, while new LED headlights are fitted as standard. Top-spec Exclusive versions also come with a new set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Changes at the rear aren’t quite so prominent, but bolder LED headlights feature, while the rear bumper has been redesigned, with new exhaust trim being introduced.

More standard kit

The MG ZS has always offered superb value for money, but this updated version goes a step further thanks to additional standard kit – meaning buyers get an even better deal than before, too.

While we’ve already mentioned the new 10.1-inch touchscreen and LED lights, the ZS also benefits from electric folding mirrors, but it’s the top-spec Exclusive that’s seen the most changes being made as it now features blind spot monitoring, a 360-degree parking camera, an electric driver’s seat and heated front seats.

A fantastic new colour

A colour can make or break a car, and if you want the ZS to look the part, it’s worth considering the new Battersea Blue shade that MG has introduced.

Other colour options include Black Pearl, Cosmic Silver, Spiced Orange, Dynamic Red and Arctic White, which is the no-cost colour.

The updated MG ZS range is on sale now, with prices starting from £15,495 for the entry-level Excite, and rising to £17,795 for the top-spec Exclusive versions. All models feature a 105bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine, too.
